Seals of Biliteracy and Other Animals: Celebrating Multilingualism in the Classroom
The United States has evolved from a monolingual nation to a vibrant multilingual powerhouse, and now it's time for Colombia to follow suit. In this webinar, we'll explore how Colombia can embrace the power of multilingualism by adopting proven tools and benchmarks that not only enhance language proficiency but also increase student engagement. Join us as we dive into the world of Seals of Biliteracy, discussing how certifying language growth can both celebrate student achievements and encourage continued progress. Let’s explore how Colombia can become the next multilingual leader by leveraging the right assessment strategies to recognize and celebrate the incredible linguistic accomplishments of students. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of the movement toward a multilingual future!
Mr. Andres Bernal, M.A. in Educational Leadership Mr. Bernal is the Director of Global Partnerships at Avant Assessments. With over 20 years of experience in education, including more than 8 years as a school leader, he led a second language program in South Carolina that served more than 26,000 students, inspiring linguistic and cultural growth. He spearheaded several initiatives to close the achievement gap in ESOL programs, significantly increasing student success. Under his leadership, the percentage of Multilingual Learning students exiting the ESOL program grew by 150% over three years. Mr. Bernal also expanded the reach of the South Carolina Seal of Biliteracy, enabling students from diverse linguistic backgrounds to receive official recognition for their proficiency in multiple languages. His program included a variety of languages, including Spanish, Chinese Mandarin, French, and German, as well as a Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program.
